Why It's Difficult

Medical Profile Part Machining Challenges

Medical profile parts require dimensional consistency that must be reproduced identically across every piece in a batch — with full documentation and no room for visual defects, burrs, or surface contamination.

🦴
Complex Anatomical Contours
Bone plate profiles follow complex 3D anatomical curves. These are machined from CT-derived or design CAD geometry using 5-axis profiling — contour accuracy ±0.05 mm verified by CMM.
✂️
Burr-Free Edges
All edges on medical profile parts must be deburred to a defined radius — no sharp edges that could damage tissue or resist sterilisation. HXC uses controlled deburring tools and verified edge radii as a mandatory final operation.
🔬
Batch Traceability
Medical-adjacent manufacturing requires material certification, batch records, and dimensional reports for every part. HXC provides material mill certificate, batch CMM report, and certificate of conformance with every order.

★★★★★
"Blade profile accuracy was exceptional — every part passed our incoming CMM check first time. Surface finish on the flow surfaces exceeded our Ra 0.4 µm specification."

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Medical Orthopedic Profile Machining

Engineering and procurement questions answered by our 5-axis machining team.

Yes — HXC machines orthopedic profile parts with multi-hole patterns on 3D curved surfaces: countersunk screw holes, locking holes, and oblong slots are all machined in 5-axis to maintain hole axis perpendicularity to the local surface normal. Hole position tolerance: ±0.01 mm. All hole positions are CMM-verified and reported in the dimensional report.
Contour accuracy: ±0.05 mm verified by CMM contour scan at multiple sections. Edge smoothness: all edges are deburred using controlled deburring tools to a defined edge radius R0.2–0.5 mm (as specified on drawing). Edge condition is inspected under 10× magnification — no sharp edges, burrs, or surface contamination accepted. This is a mandatory final operation on all medical profile parts.
Ti Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI): most common for orthopedic and implant-adjacent parts — biocompatible, high strength, lightweight, can be anodized or passivated. SUS316L: for surgical instruments and non-implanted structural components — excellent corrosion resistance, polishable to Ra 0.2 µm. Co-Cr-Mo alloys: for wear-critical orthopedic components. Material is verified by spectral analysis and a mill certificate is provided.
Standard: Ra 0.4 µm + passivation for implant-adjacent Ti and SUS316L parts. For parts in direct contact with tissue or bodily fluids: Ra 0.2 µm + electropolishing — removes surface asperities and chromium-depleted layer. Surface finish is measured by profilometer and reported. All medical profile parts are ultrasonically cleaned before packaging.
Standard documentation package: (1) Material mill certificate (alloy composition, heat batch number, mechanical properties); (2) CMM dimensional report (all critical dimensions, contour profile deviation map, hole positions); (3) Certificate of Conformance (CoC); (4) Surface finish measurement report. All documents are batch-coded — traceable to the specific production batch.
HXC is ISO 9001:2015 certified. Parts manufactured by HXC are components used in research, instrument manufacture, and device assembly — they are not supplied as finished medical devices or implants. Regulatory approval of the final device is the responsibility of the device manufacturer. HXC provides the manufacturing documentation (traceability, dimensional reports, material certificates) required to support your regulatory submission.
Yes — HXC machines patient-specific orthopedic profiles from CT or MRI-derived geometry (provided as STEP or STL file). Typical applications: complex trauma reconstruction, craniofacial plates, and custom orthopedic fixation templates. MOQ: 1 piece. Lead time: 7–10 days from approved final drawing.
Prototype (1–5 pcs, new contour): 7–10 days. Batch (20–100 pcs): 10–16 days. Patient-specific (single piece from patient STEP file): 7–12 days. Co-Cr-Mo alloy: add 3–5 days.
