Polytetrafluoroethylene

Controlled multi-layer application and precision sintering delivers a dense, well-adhered fluoropolymer film with consistent thickness and surface properties.

Blasting & Degreasing

Grit blast to Sa 2.5 for anchor profile. Solvent wipe and oven dry to remove all surface oil, moisture, and contamination prior to coating.

Primer Application

Fluoropolymer adhesion primer applied by spray and flash-dried at 80–100°C to provide the bonding layer for subsequent PTFE topcoats.

PTFE Topcoat Layers

One to three topcoat layers applied and flash-dried sequentially. Layer count determines total film thickness and pinhole elimination through the full film depth.

Sintering & QC

Sintered at 370–420°C to fuse PTFE into a continuous dense film. DFT measurement, holiday test, and adhesion cross-hatch on cooled parts.

PTFE has the lowest friction (μ=0.04) and widest temperature range (-200°C to +260°C) but cannot be melt-processed in thick films. PFA is melt-processable and allows thicker, smoother film application preferred for chemical lining. FEP has similar properties but is processable at lower temperatures (max 200°C) with excellent surface smoothness. ETFE has significantly higher mechanical strength and abrasion resistance, ideal for high-wear applications.
Yes. PTFE dry-film lubrication on stainless steel threads is very effective at preventing galling (cold welding) during assembly — a common problem with 316L and 304 fasteners. A 10–15 μm PTFE coating reduces assembly torque by 30–50% and virtually eliminates galling risk. It also provides corrosion protection for storage and service.
PTFE provides continuous service up to 260°C. Short-term excursions to 290°C are acceptable. Above 260°C continuous use, thermal degradation begins and the coating gradually softens. For continuous service above 260°C, PFA (260°C max with better high-temperature film integrity) is recommended as an alternative.
PTFE has virtually universal chemical resistance. The main exceptions are molten alkali metals (sodium, potassium), fluorine gas at elevated temperatures, and a few specific fluorinated solvents. PTFE is resistant to all common industrial acids (HCl, H₂SO₄, HNO₃, HF), bases, and organic solvents. Please provide your chemical list and we will confirm compatibility.
Yes. Worn PTFE coatings can be completely stripped and the part re-coated. Stripping is done by thermal or chemical means depending on the substrate material. The substrate is re-blasted to restore the anchor profile, then the full coating system is reapplied. The original substrate dimensions must accommodate the additional coating thickness.
For chemical barrier applications (e.g., acid resistance on reactor internals), we recommend a minimum of 3 topcoat layers producing 40–50 μm total DFT. The multi-layer approach ensures no pinholes penetrate the full film depth. A holiday (spark) test verifies film continuity. For immersion in concentrated acids, PFA in the 50–75 μm range is preferred.
