Silver Plating Process Steps

Cyanide-based silver baths with strict chemistry control deliver consistent, bright, adherent silver deposits on a wide range of substrates.

01

Pre-Treatment

Ultrasonic degreasing, electrolytic cleaning, acid activation, and silver strike to prevent immersion deposits and ensure adhesion.

02

Silver Strike

High-current-density silver strike from a dilute cyanide bath provides the adhesion foundation before the main silver deposit.

03

Main Silver Deposition

Controlled cyanide silver bath at optimised temperature and current density for bright, dense, adherent silver to specification.

04

Anti-Tarnish Treatment

Optional chromate or organic anti-tarnish passivation to protect silver surfaces from atmospheric sulfide tarnishing in storage.

Key Advantages

Highest Electrical Performance

At 106% IACS, our silver deposits deliver the lowest contact resistance of any plated metal — critical for RF connectors, power contacts, and signal integrity applications.

Anti-Tarnish Protection

Optional post-plate passivation extends shelf life and prevents sulfide tarnishing, ensuring consistent solderability after long storage periods.

Medical-Grade Capability

ISO 10993-compatible processes for direct food and medical device contact applications, with full biocompatibility documentation available.

Tight Thickness Control

±0.5 μm thickness uniformity across each batch with XRF verification, ensuring consistent electrical performance lot-to-lot.

Silver has the highest electrical conductivity of all metals (106% IACS vs copper's 100%). It also has lower contact resistance than nickel and is significantly less expensive than gold, making it the preferred choice for high-current and RF applications where maximum conductivity is required at a reasonable cost.
We apply organic or chromate-based anti-tarnish passivation after silver plating. Parts are packed in anti-tarnish VCI packaging. For long-term tarnish resistance, a thin rhodium or palladium topcoat can be applied over the silver on request.
Yes — silver is one of the most solderable plated finishes available. Our deposits meet J-STD-003 solderability requirements. We recommend a minimum of 3–5 μm silver for reliable soldering. Anti-tarnish treatment should be specified if parts will be stored before soldering.
For RF waveguides and microwave components, we recommend a minimum of 3–5 μm silver, as the skin depth at microwave frequencies is less than 1 μm. For low-frequency power contacts, 5–10 μm provides a good balance of performance and economy.
Yes, but both require specialised pre-treatment. Stainless steel needs a nickel or silver strike before the main silver deposit. Aluminum requires zincate pre-treatment followed by a nickel undercoat. Please specify your substrate material when requesting a quote.
Yes. We offer silver plating using ISO 10993-compatible bath chemistry for direct food and medical contact applications. Full process documentation and material declarations are available to support your regulatory submission.
