Why It's Difficult

Multi-Angle Connector Challenges

A connector with 6 interfaces on 6 different planes must hold the angular relationship between every pair of faces — not just each face to a single datum.

Multi-Plane Accuracy
6 faces on 6 planes: every pair must hold ±0.05° angular relationship. 5-axis machining in one setup maintains all relationships in a single coordinate frame.
Interface Compatibility
Each face connects to a different mating component. Our DFM review confirms all bolt patterns, clearance zones, and face dimensions are compatible with every mating part before machining.
🔩
Compact Envelope
Multi-angle connectors must pack many interfaces into a compact body without thin-wall weakness. We review rib and boss geometry to ensure structural integrity at every interface root.

FAQ

Multi-Angle Connector — FAQ

Common questions from engineers and procurement teams — answered by our manufacturing team.

A multi-angle connector (or multi-directional hub) is a compact structural component with three or more interface faces on different angular planes — acting as a junction between multiple structural members or sub-assemblies. Unlike a simple L-bracket (two faces, 90°), a multi-angle connector may have 4–8 faces at custom angles derived from the system layout.
HXC regularly machines connectors with up to 8 interface faces in a single 5-axis setup — all in the same coordinate system. For connectors requiring more than 8 faces, precision indexing fixtures maintain datum continuity across multiple setups.
Standard: ±0.05° between any two interface faces. For optical and precision instrument connectors: ±0.02°. Angular accuracy is verified by CMM measuring the normal vector of each face and computing the dihedral angle — reported in degrees and minutes of arc.
Our engineers review: (1) angular relationships between all interface faces; (2) wall thickness at face intersections (minimum 3 mm recommended); (3) bolt pattern clearance at each interface; (4) 5-axis access feasibility for all faces; (5) material and surface treatment compatibility with each mating part. The DFM report is provided with the quotation — free of charge.
Minimum envelope for a 4-interface connector: approximately 40 × 40 × 40 mm in Al 7075 — below this size, wall sections between interfaces become structurally marginal. For smaller connectors, we recommend consolidating interfaces or increasing wall thickness. HXC engineers advise on minimum envelope during DFM review.
Al 7075-T6 (hard anodized): standard for robotics and UAV connectors. 42CrMo4: heavy equipment and high-load frames. SUS304/316L: food, medical, marine. Ti Grade 5: aerospace weight-critical connectors. Material selection depends on the load magnitude and weight budget of the assembly.
Yes — for robot arm assemblies where multiple connectors must fit together, HXC produces matched connector sets with interface dimensions verified against a common coordinate reference. Matched-set CMM reports confirm assembly compatibility before shipment.
Prototype (1–3 pcs, custom multi-angle): 7–10 days. Small batch (10–50 pcs): 10–16 days. Production: 14–20 days.
