HT300 alloyed gray iron machine tool base components and precision guideway bases — the structural backbone of lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, and coordinate measuring machines. Gray iron's vibration damping capacity (specific damping ~0.3–0.5%) is approximately 10× higher than cast steel (~0.03%) and 30× higher than aluminium — the graphite flakes in the microstructure absorb vibration energy by converting mechanical motion to heat at grain boundaries. This directly suppresses chatter vibration during cutting, enabling finer surface finish and tighter tolerance without requiring slower cutting speeds. Guideway bases: flatness ±0.01mm/1000mm by precision surface grinding; ±0.005mm/1000mm by hand scraping (traditional precision finishing method still used on the highest-precision machine tool beds). Stress-relief annealing at 600°C performed before precision machining — removes casting residual stresses that would cause dimensional change after machining and in service. HT250 gray iron and QT450/QT500 ductile iron pump bodies and valve bodies for water, oil, and process fluid systems. Gray iron HT250 standard for low-to-medium pressure pump and valve applications (≤10 bar water, ≤20 bar oil) — excellent castability, good machinability, adequate corrosion resistance in water and mineral oil. QT450/QT500 ductile iron for higher pressure and impact-loaded pump/valve bodies where gray iron brittleness would be a risk. Internal water passages cast integral to the foundry pattern — not machined, preserving smooth flow geometry. Precision CNC machining of: bore H7 (±0.010–0.025mm) for impeller or valve spool fit; seal face Ra ≤0.4μm for lip seal or mechanical seal interface; flange face flatness ±0.02mm; port thread NPT/BSP/G to standard; mounting foot and base flatness ±0.02mm. HT250 gray iron gearbox housings and QT500 ductile iron speed reducer housings for industrial gear drives, worm reducers, bevel gear units, and planetary gearboxes. Bearing bore H7 is the standard — but bearing bore pair concentricity ≤0.02mm is the critical specification that determines gear mesh quality and bearing life: if the two bearing bores supporting opposite ends of a gear shaft are not coaxial, the shaft bends, the gear mesh load distributes unevenly, and bearing life is significantly reduced. We bore bearing bore pairs on the same horizontal boring machine setup without re-fixturing — maintaining concentricity ≤0.02mm by single-setup boring of both bores in sequence. Oil seal face Ra ≤0.4μm for lip seal sealing. Split housing: mating face flatness ±0.01mm; dowel pin reaming for accurate re-alignment after disassembly. Stress-Relief Anneal Before Precision Machining
Castings contain residual stresses from non-uniform cooling during solidification. If machined without stress relief, residual stresses redistribute after rough machining, causing dimensional change (distortion) during subsequent precision machining and in service. We stress-relief anneal all cast iron precision parts (equipment bases, machine tool beds, guideway bases, gearbox housings) at 550–600°C for 2–4 hours before precision machining — the single most important step for long-term dimensional stability.

Single-Setup Boring for Concentricity
Gearbox and reducer housing bearing bore pairs must be concentric to ≤0.02mm — this is only achievable by boring both bores in the same horizontal boring machine setup without re-fixturing. Re-fixturing between bore operations introduces cumulative position error of 0.05–0.2mm that cannot be removed without starting over. We fixture gearbox housings for single-setup boring of all bearing bores in sequence and measure concentricity by CMM before delivery.

All pump bodies, valve bodies, and sealed fluid housings hydrostatic pressure-tested at 1.5× working pressure with water for minimum 30 minutes. Over-specifying ductile iron adds cost; under-specifying causes brittle fracture.
